míde is thrilled to host its inaugural All-Island Research Conference for Women and Girls in Sport, Exercise, Physical Activity, and Health, bringing together academics, researchers, and thought leaders from across Ireland to explore gender equity, diversity, and inclusion in sport and exercise science.

Location: Glasson Lakehouse, Athlone



This full-day event features an engaging programme designed to inspire collaboration and innovation. Highlights included:

  • A review of the Irish research landscape on women in sport by Dr. Patricia Jackman (University of Lincoln).

  • Keynote presentations on gender equity in sport by Prof. Elizabeth Pike (University of Hertfordshire) and hormonal changes across the lifespan by Prof. Anthony Hackney (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill).

  • A dynamic panel discussion on interdisciplinary research chaired by Dr. Dr. Brendan Egan (DCU), featuring leading voices in the field including Dr Katie Liston (UU), Dr Catherin Norton (UL) and Dr Siobhan O’Connor (DCU).

  • The World Café session, hosted by Dr. Wesley O’Brien (UCC) and Dr. Carla McCabe (UU), fostering collaboration and bridging disciplines to advance research on women in sport

  • A spotlight talk series to showcase cutting-edge Irish research, chaired by Dr. Sinead Holden (UCD), including talks focused on the menstrual cycle and exercise, body image in the gym, postpartum physical activity and more.
